NAMD Highlights Implementation Challenges Associated with Proposed Interoperability Rule

On January 4, 2021, NAMD submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in response to a proposed rule creating additional interoperability requirements for Medicaid health information technology systems.

CMS recently proposed a rule titled “Reducing Provider and Patient Burden by Improving Prior Authorization Processes and Promoting Patients’ Electronic Access to Health Information” [CMS-9123-P] that would add new interoperability requirements to state Medicaid program’s health information technology systems. NAMD submitted comments to CMS highlighting the implementation challenges states would face under this proposed rule, given the difficulties states are already experiencing with current CMS interoperability requirements and timelines
