In October 2014, NAMD sent a letter to the Office of the Inspector General and the Centers for Medicaid and CHIP Services in response to their recent report, “State Standards for Access to Care in Medicaid Managed Care.” In this letter, NAMD identified concerns with the methodologies used in the report and highlighted operational challenges associated with overly prescriptive federal access standards. Instead, NAMD recommended that CMS, states, and managed care partner organizations launch continuing discussions on effective state policies and practices.
