Medicaid Forward: Long-term Services and Supports focuses on four immediate opportunities to shift long-term care from a system that is institutionally-biased towards one that is person-centered and provides home- and community-based options. These opportunities include:

  1. Build and strengthen the workforce;
  2. Assist and strengthen individuals’ natural supports;
  3. Promote the adoption of telehealth and assistive technology to support independence, health, and safety; and
  4. Advance person-centered outcomes and quality through innovative payment approaches.

The report also outlines ways that the federal government, particularly CMS, must be actively engaged in this effort for it to succeed.

Check out the other two reports in the Medicaid Forward series: Behavioral Health and Children’s Health.
