Mathias Rechtzigel

Technology and Innovation Fellow

Mathias Rechtzigel is a Technology and Innovation Fellow at the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD). In this role, he focuses on translating insights from on the ground delivery sprints from the Tech Talent Project, leveraging his expertise to bridge the gap between technical solution delivery and sustainable in-house capacity building for Medicaid agencies.

Prior to joining NAMD, Mathias built an extensive portfolio in the public sector. He supported the Digital Service at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where he delivered open-source tools for the No Surprises Act and Hospital Price Transparency initiatives. His work also focused on improving the delivery of care through public reporting pathways and identifying critical accessibility fixes during the rollout of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Additionally, Mathias has provided strategic technical and workforce support to the U.S. Digital Corp (at the General Services Administration) and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.

Before his transition to public service, Mathias spent over a decade in the private sector developing technology for major financial and health care organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Game Design from Brown College.

Originally from a dairy farm in southern Minnesota, where his family trained Australian Shepherds to herd cattle, Mathias now brings that same disciplined, hands-on approach to his work in technology policy.
