Hannah Maniates is the Director of Medicaid Programming at the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD). In this role, she leads NAMD’s state-to-state learning program, which connects Medicaid agencies to share strategies and address common challenges. This program uses role-based affinity groups, interdisciplinary workgroups, issue briefs, and other resources to support state and territory leaders in operating effective Medicaid programs.

Before joining NAMD, Hannah worked in substance use and mental health policy, holding roles at the City of Boston’s Office of Recovery Services, the National Center for PTSD at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Bloomberg American Health Initiative’s addiction and overdose team.

She holds a Master of Public Health in Health Systems and Policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a B.A. in neuroscience and biology from Wesleyan University. Originally from Meadville, Pennsylvania (made famous by the wrecking ball incident of 2007), she now lives in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. When not reading about Medicaid policy, she enjoys live music, yoga, and cooking.
