NAMD Requests Pause on Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Rule Finalization
On July 27, 2021, NAMD sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma requesting a pause on the agency’s work to finalize the Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Rule (MFAR).
The Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Rule would add significant new rules, requirements, and oversight to state financing arrangements and supplemental payments. Although NAMD supports efforts to increase transparency and accountability in the Medicaid program, the proposals in MFAR would have far-reaching impacts on state Medicaid financing mechanisms which states simply will not have the capacity to implement while managing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic
