NAMD Comments on the 2026 CMS’ Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs Proposed Rule

On June 15, 2026, NAMD formally commented on CMS’ Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs Proposed Rule.

On June 15, 2026, NAMD submitted comments on CMS’ proposed rule, 2026 CMS Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs (CMS-0062-P).

NAMD supports CMS’ goals of improving interoperability, streamlining prior authorization processes, and promoting informed decision-making through the exchange and use of health information. However, Medicaid agencies have concerns about the feasibility of implementing the proposed requirements on CMS’ timeline while also managing major systems and policy changes, budget constraints, procurement processes, and implementation of prior interoperability rulemaking.

To support successful implementation and advance the intended goals of the rule, CMS should extend the implementation period and provide Medicaid agencies with tailored technical assistance and other implementation resources.
