Stephen Smith

Stephen Smith serves as the Director of TennCare, Tennessee’s Medicaid program. In his current role, he manages an $18 billion health care enterprise that provides services to more than 1.4 million Tennesseans.

Prior to being appointed director by Governor Bill Lee, Smith served as chief of staff to Governor Bill Haslam. He previously served as deputy commissioner for policy and external affairs at the Tennessee Department of Education and in private law practice. Stephen lives in Nashville with his wife, Christina, and three daughters.
