Ryan Schwarz is a physician, and the Medicaid Director and Assistant Secretary for MassHealth, Massachusetts’s Medicaid and CHIP program. In this role, Ryan oversees the state’s $23 billion health insurance program, serving ~2 million Massachusetts residents.
Ryan previously served in multiple leadership roles for MassHealth and as the clinical lead for the Massachusetts COVID-19 Response Command Center in which he helped lead the state’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to his time with Massachusetts state government, Ryan worked with governments and health systems globally as a technical adviser to the World Bank. Ryan also co-founded Nepal’s first public-private partnership healthcare delivery organization, and co-founded The Community Health Impact Coalition, which works with governments in over 40 countries to enhance implementation of community health worker programs.
Ryan is a practicing internal medicine and pediatrics physician at a health center in the Boston area. He completed his MD and MBA at Yale, and his clinical training at Harvard Medical School.
