Heather Petermann

Heather has served as South Dakota’s Medicaid Director since 2024. Her tenure in health care and public service have included leadership roles in program administration, quality and data analytics for Minnesota Medicaid and United Health Group.  She has a Master of Science in Healthcare Informatics from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelors in Ethics and Public Policy.  Heather is passionate about making health care systems more accessible, effective, and responsive to our most vulnerable neighbors.  She loves having her kids home from college, traveling (especially to visit family in Montana) and trying to keep up with her spouse on bike rides.
