Audrey Frenzel serves as Indiana’s Medicaid Director, beginning in March 2026, where she oversees the state’s Medicaid program, which serves more than 1.5 million Hoosiers. She previously served as Chief of Staff for the Office of the Secretary of Health and Family Services, leading cross-agency policy, operations, and legislative strategy across Indiana’s health and human services agencies.
Prior to her work in Indiana state government, Audrey held senior health policy roles in the U.S. Senate, including serving as a Policy Advisor to Senator Mitt Romney from 2023 until his retirement, where she advanced bipartisan health care legislation and regulatory reforms. She also previously held several roles in Senator Mike Braun’s office, from 2019 through 2023, where she helped develop and advance federal health policy, transparency initiatives, and regulatory reforms.
In 2024, Audrey returned to Indianapolis, where she was born and raised. In 2025, Audrey was a recognized emerging leader, named to the Indianapolis Business Journal “20 in Their Twenties” class, honoring her impact on Indiana’s policy and civic landscape. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Dayton, with minors in Pre-Law, Criminal Justice Studies, and Political Science.
