On June 10, NAMD submitted comments in response to CMS’ request for information on establishing minimum staff ratios in long-term care facilities. Although NAMD supports CMS’ goal of improving the quality of long-term care, a minimum staff ratio may have unintended consequences, including a reversal of progress to rebalance towards home and community-based services and budgetary challenges for states. Additionally, national workforce shortages would make implementing a minimum staff ratio very challenging.
