NAMD Letter to Congress on Medicare Part B Premiums

Today, NAMD urged Congressional committees of jurisdiction to take immediate action to avert the 52% increase in Medicare Part B premiums slated to take effect on January 1, 2016. The letter notes that the financial burden of this increase falls primarily on Medicaid programs, as the premium increase applies to only 30% of Part B beneficiaries – primarily the dually eligible population, whose premiums are paid by Medicaid. NAMD also calls on Congress to reform the underlying policy that requires Medicaid to subsidize Medicare, despite states having no ability to influence Medicare policy or spending.
