Medicaid and Million Hearts: Opportunities and Approaches to Prevent Cardiovascular Disease

Million Hearts is a national initiative to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. Through this effort, private and public partners, including Medicaid and public health agencies, have been collaborating since September 2011 to enhance cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention and achieve this goal. This fact sheet, which is being released in partnership with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, addresses the variety of policy levers and approaches Medicaid agencies may use to enhance CVD prevention.
